01. PURPOSE & TASK OVERVIEW
This semester, during third course, we had a task to realize the project we worked on last year. For this, I chose my workbench project.
The process is to choose one of the projects we worked on last year, improve it, and realize the prototype. The first steps are to understand the faults in the project, and correct them. After that, make 3D models, sketches, and make a sketch prototype from lighter materials.
TASK 1
Making a model
TASK 2
Experiments
TASK 3
Work on mistakes
TASK 4
3D Model
TASK 5
Realization in material, prototyping
TASK 6
Visualization
02. CONCEPT ITERATIONS & DRUM EXPERIMENTS
The original concept I had included strings, and was supposed to work as a string workbench. After reflection, I tried to substitute strings for other musical elements, since it required less expensive and complicated mechanisms and materials.
I took the idea of the drums with a variety of tones and sounds that I developed during a creative workshop, and brought it into this project.
After the first sample sketch prototype I made this semester, I chose to cut off the higher part, increase the height of the construction, and add support planks on the bottom.
03. RE-DIMENSIONING & ACOUSTIC BOXES
After the half-reviews, I decided to come back to using the strings. It is conceptually better, and corresponds better to the task.
This is the AutoCAD file I had to prepare for the laser cutting. I used 4mm plywood to assemble the physical acoustic resonance chambers.
THE RESULT // FINAL PROTOTYPE
I ended up with a prototype that is true to the concept, with some adjustments, and has the potential to be fully functional.
